NAME NAFIS KHAN
Nafis Khan is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from NED, 1st semester batch of 1976-77, graduated in 1983. He completed his Masters from Wayne State University-Detroit, Michigan in 1990. He has been in Michigan since 1988 and works for Ford Motor Company. His wife is a Computer systems graduate from NED as well.
Nafis has been involved with NED and with the local community on various projects:
Lead for one of the first need-cum-merit based scholarship programs initiated in the US to support the students of NED. The scholarship supported 20 students per year and was a model that was emulated by many.
Developed a volunteer support program during the 2008 economic downturn. Technology Forum of Greater Detroit (TFGD) was created with the vision to help out those local engineers who lost their jobs, particularly in the field of Engineering & Technology. This group provided networking, resumes writing, and interview support and informed engineers about job opportunities.
Was an elected member of the IAGD (Islamic Association of Greater Detroit) board, worked in the IAGD education committee and maintenance committee.
Worked as a board member of Pakistan Association of America, Michigan.
Developed and maintained a database of NED graduates of NED Mechanical Engineering Class of 1977 since 1998.
Elected President of the first board of NED Alumni Association of Michigan (NAAM) for the 2018-2019 term.
